WWE's Monster Loves Raising Kane

Go ahead and boo Kane ... Glenn Jacobs loves it.

Thirty-seven-year-old Jacobs, who took on the Kane character in 1995 after short-lived stints as the fake Diesel and Jerry Lawler's dentist, Isaac Yankem, has found a role he can sink his teeth into.

Evil, pure evil. But as hard as the nearly-seven-foot, more-than-300-lb., monster tries to be nasty, the jeers sometimes turn into cheers.

"Sometimes, the more heinous things you do, the more people like it," said Kane. "It's a reflection of society. We're living in the era of the anti-hero. If you asked all the wrestlers, the vast majority of them would say they'd prefer to be booed. We get to go out there and have fun by upsetting people ... it's so much more fun than being one of the good guys. You can pretty much do what you want."

Jacobs loved the Kane concept as soon as he heard it.

"It was a chance to work with The Undertaker right off the bat," he said. "It was a dream come true."

So what was his reaction when he found out WWE wanted him to remove and wrestle without his red mask, which added mystique?

"It's funny ... everybody was worried -- everyone except for myself and Vince McMahon," he said. "Of course we were taking a risk, changing something that had worked for years. But I'd gone about as far as I could. It was time to try something new."

Kane says he's loved his feuds with The Undertaker, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Mick Foley, Snitsky and Edge ... now he's got his sights set on Shawn Michaels, again.

"Shawn is one of the greatest performers ever," said Kane. "We had a bit of a thing going, but I'd like to do something more drawn out."

How did it feel delivering a tombstone piledriver to former Cincinnati Reds legend Pete Rose?

"I was a St. Louis Cardinals fan when I was growing up, so it felt pretty good," he said.

Kane is hoping for a Taboo Tuesday date (on pay-per-view in two days), but he'll need some help from fans. Kane needs votes from his fans (with Shawn Michaels and Big Show also eligible) to face John Cena and Kurt Angle in a Triple Threat Match for the WWE title. Other matches you can vote on: Edge and Chris Masters vs. Smackdown! stars (two of Rey Mysterio, JBL, Matt Hardy, Christian and Hardcore Holly); Ric Flair vs. Triple H (one fall, submission or steel cage); Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. Jonathan Coachman (verbal debate, arm wrestling or street fight); Carlito vs. Mick Foley (as Dude Love, Cactus Jack or Mankind); Diva Battle Royal (cheerleaders, lingerie or leather and lace); Rob Conway vs. Eugene and a WWE legend (Jimmy Superfly Snuka, Hacksaw Jim Duggan or Kamala); Cade and Murdoch vs. two wrestlers not selected for Triple Threat Match.
